Use cases
Organize your Deployments at a higher level with use cases. Define risk classifications aligned with the EU AI Act and track your use case through lifecycle stages. Filter use cases based on their lifecycle stage or risk classification from the use cases page.
Manage use cases
Add new use cases and assign Deployments to them in two ways:
- Manual: Create a use case on the use cases page first, then assign it when you create or update your Deployment
- Automatic: Create a Deployment without selecting an existing use case and Deeploy automatically creates one using your Deployment's name
All use case names must be unique within your Workspace, and you can't delete a use case that contains Deployments.
Use case details
Lifecycle stage progression
Track and advance your use case through four stages:
- Exploration
- Development
- Validation
- Production
Progress through stages in a disciplined manner. Move one step forward or backward at a time, without skipping stages:
- Permitted: development → validation, production → validation
- Not permitted: exploration → validation, production → exploration
Risk classification
Assign a risk classification to a use case. The available classifications are based on the EU AI Act.
View Deployments
View all active Deployments part of the use case in one centralized location.
Controls
If a control framework is applied to the Workspace, Deeploy displays a list of controls. The list includes controls relevant to the use case risk classification and lifecycle stage. For example, if the use case is in the validation stage, controls relevant to both the exploration and validation stages appear.
Select View all controls to see all controls for this use case, including those for future stages. You can complete or provide evidence for future stage controls in advance, but they won't count towards your framework completion.
Completing controls
Provide evidence for controls using checks and supporting evidence. Enter supporting evidence in the Markdown editor and select Save.
To change the control status:
- Submit supporting evidence to automatically change status to 'In progress'
- Select Mark as completed to complete a control
- Select Mark as in progress to reopen a completed control when needed
Only completed controls count towards the use case framework completion.
Controls can be completed irrespective of the use case stage they belong to
Risk classification assessment
The risk classification assessment is a guided questionnaire that helps you determine the appropriate risk classification for your use case, based on the EU AI Act. This assessment is based on the Algorithm Audit Implementation Tool and provides a structured way to evaluate your AI system against the criteria defined in the EU AI Act.
Starting an assessment
- Navigate to the use case page
-
- For use cases without an existing risk classification: select Assess this use case in the Risk classification section.
- For use cases that have a risk classification assigned: select Risk class assessment in the options button (three dots) dropdown
- Follow the step-by-step questionnaire, answering questions about your AI system's purpose, capabilities, and potential impacts
Assessment structure
The assessment guides you through several key questions to determine:
- Whether your system falls under the EU AI Act's definition of an AI system
- The intended purpose and application domain of your system
- Potential prohibited uses under Article 5
- High-risk criteria as defined in Articles 6-7
- Specific use cases that automatically qualify as high-risk
Based on your responses, Deeploy suggests the most appropriate risk classification for your use case.
Saving progress
You can save your assessment at any point and return to complete it later:
- Select Exit at the top and confirm to save the assessment
- When you're ready to continue, return to your use case page
- Select Continue assessment to pick up where you left off
Completing the assessment
After completing all questions, you'll receive a recommended risk classification based on your answers. You can:
- Apply the recommendation to update your use case with the recommended risk classification
- Download the PDF report and review your answers
The final risk classification appears on your use case page and determines applicable controls from your control framework.
You can retake the assessment at any time if your use case changes or if you need to refine your classification.
